How to Look Busy at Work Without Really Working!!
Well, i am without work for almost 3 months now.."On Bench" that's what they say in my profession.I don't really mind that...I pretend to work...they pretend to pay me:)..Here are some of experiences of "How to Look Busy at Work Without Really Working".But first the disclaimer..Your use of the tips is at your sole risk. Please don't try this at ...office.You have got to take some precaution if you’re going to turn some of your work time into leisure time.
OK so here's how you can look busy.
10) Simplest one is to open several of the applications you normally use for work and have them visible on your computer’s desktop. The applications, of course, vary depending on the nature of your work. Just remember if you hear footsteps approaching your cube..just use the alt+tab button.
9) Create an optical illusion of furious activities.Always keep some folders, files,print-outs on your desk.
8) You can take frequent long coffee (My fave)or smoke breaks. Drink lots of water. Not only is water good for your health and can combat certain types of cancer, it makes you have to use the loo a lot. Loo trips can take up a lot of time and are a legitimate way to waste time while still looking busy.
7)Always move around the office with a folder marked as "Confidential". This will make others feel you are really busy with the new project that's coming up.
6)Visit friends in other departments and inform your cube-mate that you going to library/training/lecture room. So if you boss comes looking for you he knows where you are.
5)Watch out for Big Brother. Most large companies now monitor their employees’ computer usage. Learn about your company’s policies on Internet usage, and learn about their monitoring efforts (it helps to make friends with someone in the IT department). If you can’t run afoul of the company’s policies without making sure you won’t get caught, don’t risk it.
4)Put your jacket to good use. Always hang it on the chair when you are for a movie with your friends.
3)Always put your phone on voice-mail to avoid "unwanted calls" or meeting calls.
2)Disable your screen saver, or set the timeout for a really long time, so that it isn't so obvious that you haven't been at your desk for a while.
1) And my fave one..always put your office IM on "Busy" and "Don't Disturb" mode. :) Always works. PS..If you are my boss and you are reading this..I don't practice what i preach ;D
