After The Game!

On my way back home from work, I got stuck in a traffic jam. I have got used to it now and try not losing my patience. My weary eyes rest on a creative writing on the rickshaw-hood. It said “After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.” As soon as I read this, I could picturise two blurred faces playing chess. One says "Checkmate...Game Over". Then they collect all the chess pieces and put them in the chess-box. Isn’t it interesting how smallest things in life teach you biggest of lessons? Just a simple act of putting away chess pieces after the game means so much if you compare it with your “game” of your life.

Human beings can be compared with chess pieces. We have our “kings” and we have our “pawns”. They are everywhere, at your home, workplace, in your friend circle, in your family. The “kings” are few in number, but are most significant. Not that the pawns don’t serve their purpose, but they are large in number and less important. One wouldn’t think twice if he had to sacrifice a “pawn” to save the “king”. You can sacrifice a pawn, but you can’t sacrifice the king.

When the “game” of our life ends the “king” and the “pawns” go in the same box. Like someone said, death is a great equalizer. True are the words. The status of a chess pieces doesn’t matter when it is in the box. The game ends soon and out comes the box. It’s not what you had before you went in that matter, but what awaits you in the box that means everything!
