Jeene Ke Liye Ghum Ki bhi zaroorat hoti hai-By Jagit Singh

I am a connoisseur of ghazals. I like to find the hidden meaning in each sher that is there in a ghazal and use urdu-to-english dictionary to find the literal meaning. This is one ghazal which i tend to listen repeatedly without getting tired.Finding meaning of this one took me a long time.

Gulshan ki faqat phoolon se nahin, kaanton se bhi zeenat hoti hai,
Jeene ke liye is duniyaa mein gham ki bhi zaroorat hoti hai.

Ae waaiz-e-naadaan kartaa hai tu ek qayaamat kaa charchaa,
Yahaan roz nigaahen milti hain, yahaan roz qayaamat hoti hai.

Woh purshish-e-gham ko aaye hain, kuchh keh na sakoon, chup rehna sakoon,
Khaamosh rahooh to mushkil hai, keh dooh to shikaayat hoti hai.

Karnaa hi padegaa zapt-e-alam, peene hi padenge yeh aansoo
faryaad-o-fughaan se ai naadaan, tauheen-e-muhabbat hoti hai

Jo aa ke ruke daaman pe sadha woh ashq nahin hai paani hai,
jo ashk na chhalke aankhon se us ashk ki qeemat hoti hai.

My fav sher is the last one which when translated in english means
The tears that flow from the eyes and fall onto the lap, are not tears but plain water..
Of priceless value are those tears, which do not flow from the eyes.
Waah Ustad Waah!!
faqat = only
zeenat = beauty/attractiveness
waaiz = preacher; qayaamat = day of judgement
purshish-e-gham = inquiry of sorrow, pay cond
olences, sympathize
zapt-e-alam = bottle one's emotions, keep sorrow to heart
faryaad-o-fughaan = crying out aloud and beseeching
tauheen-e-muhabbat = disgracing the act of love
chhalke = to top the rim and overflow, in this case, the eyes brimming with tears
